Christmas 2014

Many can fear Christmas due to indulgent foods and the strain on our wallets but I myself have never feared it. There’s nothing I love more than shopping for that specific and flawless outfit that will make me stand out in a room full of people (probably ex friends and boyfriends) and know that I can stand there and feel fabulous. As exciting as this sounds, there is a common pitfall that us fashion lovers can fall into with this fascination but one that can be avoided.

Now every year we see that girl (and you know the one I’m talking about) the girl that is all about the “too much” factor. Too much bling, too much make up, too many sequins and this is where I feel most people go wrong. So my advice for planning and buying your Christmas/New Year’s Eve outfit is too keep it simple, dress for yourself and your figure. Keeping your outfit simple sounds harder than it is. People hear simple, they hear boring, or empty or bland BUT it’s not. Simplicity is key and as Karl Lagerfield once said “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress”, that’s what you need. That solid basis to create a killer outfit. From the LBD you get the shoes that make you feel like you can conquer the world and then add the jewelry. Either a set of earrings, a statement necklace or an embellished hair piece. These are all “successories” as Laura Weir calls them and they are pieces that will give your LBD that unique twist that it needs.

Even with the excitement of Christmas we can still be installed with this sense of dread of those “what to wear” traumas. Aren’t they worse? Lying amongst the contents of what was your wardrobe wailing that you have nothing to wear? I myself have been in this position where it has in fact left me to be late for an event. Why does the pressure of clothes affect us so much? Maybe people think that an obsession over what to wear isn’t necessary but who doesn’t want to walk into the party and have heads turn in your direction for the right reasons? Everyone wants that and my little and simple piece of advice on not to be part of the “too much” factor will benefit your wardrobe so much throughout this festive season.
